I'm looking for a Market Research Manager for a leader in the consumer products industry. Candidate should have 5++ years of consumer research experience.
JOB FUNCTION/PURPOSE
Primarily supports consumer Marketing by developing, conducting, and analyzing marketing research in a way that ensures full understanding of consumer attitudes and behavior, product performance, brand equities, and the retail environment.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Position is responsible for consulting with Marketing on emerging business issues, designing the appropriate custom/primary research to obtain the necessary information, and analyzing and presenting the information to facilitate better decision making by management, reduction in risk, and optimizing opportunities. The Marketing Research Manager is a business partner to all levels of the Marketing staff as well as serving as a consultant and consumer advocate for Sales, Customer Marketing, and Merchandising and Design. This position also supports the information needs of outside agencies (advertising, PR promotion) as well as manages numerous research suppliers.
A. Key Accountabilities
· Works with Consumer Marketing on defining marketing issue and information needed to develop action plan related to marketing mix (advertising/promotion, product, distribution, pricing).
· Explores, reviews and introduces innovative methodologies, tools, and information sources to enhance consumer insights.
· Identifies consumer/retailer drivers and motivations to build brand share/preference and maintain/enhance relevance of company's brands. Explores all means of data analysis, summarization, and presentation to facilitate the sharing of this information and ease of understanding within company.
· Routinely synthesizes and incorporates data from multiple sources (syndicated and primary research) into comprehensive knowledge, actionable insights, and business recommendations.
· Engages, negotiates, and manages research supplier relationships - maintaining cost efficiencies, ensuring accuracy of information and timely receipt of results.
§ Develops, defines and leads marketing research projects by assuming responsibility for all project elements, (defines objective/scope, identifies resources, executes research, reviews analysis, writes or approves final report to include conclusions and implications for company).
· Manages multi-million dollar research budget – anticipating research needs for budget planning purposes, writing internal authorizations and coordinating approvals, timely payment of invoices, and establishing accruals as necessary.
· Works proactively with client groups (Consumer Marketing, Team Sales, Regional Sales, agencies, research suppliers, other company associates) to identify and resolve marketing issues via execution and analysis of marketing research.
C. Training/Development
Manage, motivate, and coach Marketing Research Analysts to broaden their use and understanding of marketing research tools and techniques:
· Provide exposure/training on various research methodologies
· Act as mentor in the areas of problem/issue definition, data analysis, integration of information from multiple data sources, development of implications from data analysis, and verbal/written communication of research findings
· Applying consumer/retail insights to drive brand growth.
· Technical knowledge of marketing research methodology, tools, and techniques including an understanding of what can and cannot be achieved via different techniques and approaches.
· Ability to translate marketing questions into relevant research designs – that is, when to conduct qualitative versus quantitative research and what specific type of research to conduct.
· Computer literate; moderate/heavy experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint or similar software
· Moderate familiarity with research tabbing packages (e.g., Quanvert)
§ Creative and flexible thinker, capable of critical, objective evaluation
§ Facilitation skills to lead a team through research process to achieve a solution
§ Strong, confident communicator with good influencing skills
§ Works independently (minimal supervision) and takes responsibility for full project management.
4-year college degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Eight to ten years relevant data analysis and research experience with demonstrated project management success either within client or supplier environment.
To tell you a bit about myself, I've been recruiting for over 26 years, starting in St. Louis with Roth Young in 1979, and relocated to Portland, Oregon in 1990 to start my own firm. My specialty is Marketing Research primarily in the packaged goods industry. Previous to entering the recruiting business, I spent 5 years with McCormick & Co. Inc. (spices and seasoning mixes) in sales management.
Location: Mid size city in the Carolinas
SALARY: flexible to the $80K area + bonus
